What is Checkout?
Checkout is a new feature from eBay that helps provide an easy and consistent way to complete sales and purchases. Checkout is available for any item on eBay, including auction-style listings, Buy-It-Now listings, and Store fixed-price listings.

Before the listing starts, sellers may use Checkout to provide details such as shipping & handling, tax, and insurance. When the listing ends, buyers will know the total price and can use Checkout to provide their shipping address and pay via the seller's accepted payment methods.

When will Checkout be available?
Checkout will be available in mid-October.

Where will Checkout be available?
Checkout will be available on:
  • eBay Motors: Accessories and Everything Else (not vehicles)
  • Sothebys.com
  • eBay Stores
Initially, Checkout will not be available on:
  • Real Estate
  • International sites
Why is eBay previewing Checkout so early?
We are previewing Checkout for a month for two reasons. First, we want to make sure users have time to learn about the new feature. Second, we want to give providers of 3rd party seller tools a month's notice to prepare their systems for the upcoming feature release.

Why is eBay launching Checkout?
Many buyers, especially new users, often find the experience of closing a listing confusing. With Checkout, we hope to provide a streamlined, efficient, and consistent process that makes it easy and simple for buyers to complete their purchase.

As a buyer, what are the benefits of Checkout?
  • An easy and consistent way to complete your purchase
  • Faster - complete your purchase with fewer emails
  • Pay immediately, if the seller accepts eBay Payments (known as eBay Online Payments by Billpoint)
As a seller, what are the benefits of Checkout?
  • Complete your transaction with fewer emails
  • Get paid faster, since buyers will be able to complete their purchases when the listing ends
  • Get paid even faster if you accept eBay Payments
How much does it cost to use Checkout?
Checkout is FREE for both sellers and buyers.

Is Checkout required for buyers?
No, Checkout is not required. Checkout is an optional feature that provides a consistent and convenient way to complete a purchase. If buyers do not want to use Checkout, they can continue to email their sellers just as they do now.

Is Checkout required for sellers?
No, Checkout is not required. Checkout is an optional feature that provides a fast way to complete the sale.

Sellers may select to not provide Checkout information such as shipping & handling, sales tax, and insurance when listing an item. Even if sellers do not provide Checkout details, buyers will be able to access Checkout from closed listing pages, My eBay, and End of Auction notices. They may use Checkout in this case to send sellers their shipping address and request more information. Sellers can respond using their current methods.

What payment methods are compatible with Checkout?
Checkout is compatible with:
  • Money Order/Cashier's Check
  • Personal Check
  • COD (cash on delivery)
  • eBay Payments (Credit Card, Electronic Check)
  • Other credit cards (Visa/Mastercard, Discover, American Express)
  • Other
Only the options the seller has specified will be available to buyers.

Does Checkout require eBay Payments?
No, Checkout does not require eBay Payments. Sellers can choose from any of the payment methods specified above in the previous question. Only the options the seller has chosen will be available to buyers.

Using eBay Payments provides additional benefits when using Checkout. With eBay Payments, sellers can receive payment faster since buyers can pay immediately for their purchases when they go through the Checkout process.

Can international buyers use Checkout on www.eBay.com listings?
Yes, international buyers can use Checkout on www.ebay.com listings. When going through Checkout, buyers will provide their shipping address to their sellers, and the sellers can email the buyers the final price.

How are seller tools affected?
Mister Lister and Seller's Assistant products will fully support Checkout shortly after the initial launch on the site. For tools provided by third parties, we are giving providers 30 days notice. If these providers belong to our API program, they will have access to our system to help prepare for the feature change. To find out if your tool will be affected, we recommend you check with your service provider.

Can Checkout support multi-item and shopping cart? Will there be additional enhancements?
Currently, Checkout is for single items only. We are considering additions such as multi-item and shopping cart for future versions of the product and will communicate changes to you when they occur.
