Frequently Asked Questions about Second Chance Offer in Reserve Not Met Listings (eBay Motors)

Q. Can the Second Chance Offer be used for Reserve Price Auctions that did not meet the reserve price?
A. Yes, in limited eBay Motors categories. It is available for listings within Passenger Vehicles, Motorcycles, or Other Vehicles categories on eBay Motors that did not meet the reserve price. This feature allows the seller to extend an offer for the item to any one of the bidders with a Buy It Now price equal to or less than the original auction's reserve price.

Q. What if the item meets the reserve price but the winning bidder does not pay?
A. Second Chance Offers can also be sent to a non-winning bidder if the high bidder does not pay for the item. Click here for more information.

Q. Why should a seller use the Second Chance Offer feature?
A. The Second Chance Offer feature gives sellers a second chance at selling the item quickly and easily with all the benefits of eBay's services. The Second Chance Offer can be sent to all bidders on the item (but only one Second Chance Offer can be made at a time except for Parts and Accessories items).

Best of all, creating a Second Chance Offer is FREE. Sellers pay only the Final Value Fee when the offer is accepted.

Q. When can a seller use Second Chance Offer if the reserve price has not been met?
A. A seller may extend a Second Chance Offer to all bidders on the vehicle when the reserve price has not been met. It can be used immediately after the listing ends for up to 60 days. However, the Second Chance Offer can only be sent to one bidder at a time. In addition, the Second Chance Offer is not available to bidders who have opted not to receive them in their email preferences.

Note: This type of Second Chance Offer can only be used on items within the Passenger Vehicles, Motorcycles, or Other Vehicles categories on eBay Motors. The feature can only be used on listings that receive bids but do not meet the reserve price.

Q. Who can a seller send a Second Chance Offer to when the reserve price has not been met?
A. A seller can send a Second Chance Offer to any bidder who did not meet the reserve price after the listing has closed.

Q. Who can view the Second Chance Offer?
A. Any seller can view his or her Second Chance Offer. Remember: Only the non-winning-bidder who receives a Second Chance Offer can view and purchase it.

Q. How is the price set?
A. If the reserve price has not been met, the price must be set at or below the original reserve price. Note: The seller will have the option of lowering the price before the acceptance of the offer.

Q. Are there any fees for sending a Second Chance Offer?
A. eBay does not charge Insertion Fees to send a Second Chance Offer. After the item sells, the seller will be charged the applicable Final Value Fee.

Q. As a buyer, what if I do not wish to receive a Second Chance Offer?
A. If you do not wish to receive a Second Chance Offer, simply edit your preferences here.
