Keep Your Information
Current
It is a good idea to keep the registration information in your account
current for several reasons:
- If any potential buyer uses the “Find Members” option
to find your phone number and address, then you want to be sure that
they receive accurate information
- If you want to become a “Licensed Dealer Verified by eBay Motors,”
then the information in your registration has to match the information
on your dealer license
- If someone other than you (a salesperson or another employee) started
your eBay account and used their own personal information to start your
account, then that account will technically belong to that individual.
If they leave or become unavailable your account will have inaccurate
information and it will be vulnerable to take over
Paying Your Bill
There are two important things to know about paying your bill: how and
when.
How:
The payment method most preferred by eBay Motors is a direct debit
from your bank account or credit card. This may also be the most convenient
for you. Your account will always be current and you won’t be put
on hold for late payment if somebody in your accounting office does not
pay the bill.
If you cannot authorize direct debit, or if you do not have a company
credit card, then you can also pay by check. You simply print out and
mail in the payment stub from the first page of your invoice. Alternatively,
you can make one-time payments online from your bank account, or credit
card.
When:
eBay Motors invoices are sent by email only on the 15th or the 1st
of the month and are due 30 days after receipt. You will receive a notice
if you have an amount that has not been paid 30 days past the due date.
If you are 60 days past due, your account will be put on hold and you
will not be able to list. Your invoice will be sent by email to the email
address in your registration. This is the same address your bidders use
to send you email. If you have a separate accounting department, be sure
to forward the email invoice because only one copy is sent to your sales
email address.
Call your account manager if you are having trouble with your bill.
Know the Rules
eBay Motors goes to extensive lengths to ensure a safe buying and selling
environment for all of its users. Some basic rules to know as an eBay
Motors vehicle seller:
- Comply with state legal regulations – dealer laws
- Do not bid on your own auctions or enlist any account that you are
in any way associated with to bid on your auction in order to influence
bidding
- Know eBay’s listing policies
- Do not misrepresent your vehicles
- Know your responsibilities as a seller
- You can read about all of eBay’s policies at:

Know eBay’s Payment Policies
Be clear in your listing about all the fees and taxes that you expect
buyers to pay, including a clearly stated policy for all terms and deposits.
Be courteous and reasonable in the amount of time that you allow buyers
to pay your deposit or make payment in full. eBay policy states that buyers
should be allowed at least three days after a listing closes to contact
and make settlement with sellers. We realize that for many sellers three
days is an eternity, but you can easily minimize your wait for payment
and expedite closure by communicating with your bidders before the auction
ends.
Don’t Sell Offline
Selling off line is defined as selling merchandise to a lead that you
received through eBay or on an eBay listed vehicle that is not the winning
bidder of that item. We understand that there are many circumstances in
which this activity occurs and that resisting closing the transaction
off line, or convincing your buyers to participate online is not always
easy. However, technically, this practice can be interpreted as fee avoidance,
and you can be suspended for it. More importantly, we know from experience
that selling off line will result in lower margins for you and fewer benefits
for you and your buyers.
We want to make sure that you understand what you are giving up
by closing offline:
- No chance to earn feedback
- No eBay Assurance protection for your buyer
- No chance for your buyer to use the eBay Financing Center
We want you to be aware of alternatives:
- Use the Lower Your Price feature
- Second Chance Offer
- Relisting with a Buy It Now price
Try eBay’s Financing Center
If you do not already offer a full spectrum of financing options through
your business, then check out the New eBay Financing Center. We now offer
financing from a reputable institution at competitive rates for both prime
and sub-prime customers. Not only can the eBay Financing Center back up
your buyers and provide them with a more secure source of payment, it
can also make direct deposits into your bank account on the day that the
vehicle is shipped or picked up by the buyer. No more waiting for a week
for colored vouchers and checks, just cash in your account the day that
the vehicle leaves your lot.
Through our provider, the eBay Financing Center offers a full-service
call center for buyers that also helps them with other services such as
their DMV paperwork, state taxes, title, and shipping logistics. It can
take some of the burden of post-sale logistics off you and your business.
Most importantly, the Financing Center has a program to pay you, the seller,
on an escalating scale for referring qualified buyers to the service.
Contact your account manager for more information on the Financing
Center.
Track Your Cost Per Vehicle
The best sellers on eBay Motors track their cost of doing business very
carefully. They know exactly what their margin is on every item sold.
They incorporate their eBay Motors invoice into their accounting. Remember
that your eBay Motors invoice does not contain vehicle attributes such
as make, model, color or year. eBay invoices are categorized only by the
listing item number and the date of the listing.
So, the best method for you to track your costs of doing business on
eBay Motors is to put the listing item number (found at the top right
of an item page) into whatever method of accounting you use for vehicles.
Wherever you track the other costs associated with selling a vehicle,
such as purchase, shipping, detailing and repair costs, also put your
eBay item number, or item numbers if you relist the vehicle.
Then, when your eBay invoice arrives, you can trace costs back to that
vehicle. If you use paper filing or accounting methods, then it’s
a good idea to print out the item page, which contains both the item number
and the starting and ending dates of the listing. CARad
Technology can help.
