Buying

What is parts compatibility?
Parts compatibility allows sellers to save time and money by creating a single parts and accessories listing on eBay Motors. This feature lets buyers enter some basic information about their car or truck to find parts and accessories that will fit their vehicle. A compatibility tab, located in all parts and accessories listings, will list all of the vehicles a particular item will fit.

What are the benefits of parts compatibility for buyers?
Parts compatibility enables buyers to:
  • Gain more confidence when purchasing parts and accessories while lowering the number of buyer questions and returns.
  • View only the listings matching your vehicle's year, make and model in the search results pages.
  • Verify the part or accessory that will fit your vehicle.

How do I search for parts for my car?
  1. On the eBay Motors homepage, enter relevant keywords (such as part type and vehicle year/make/model) into the search box at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Search button.
  3. Select a listing from the search results page.
  4. You may also refine your search from the search results page by entering additional information in the Cars & Trucks Finder.

How do I search for tires/rims?
  1. On the eBay Motors homepage, enter relevant keywords (such as wheel or tire type and vehicle year/make/model) into the search box at the top of the page.
  2. Click the Search button.
  3. Select a listing from the search results page.
  4. You may also refine your search from the search results page by entering additional information in the Cars & Trucks Finder.

What is the compatibility tab in View Item page?
The Compatibility tab is located to the right of the "Description" tab on View Item pages. When you click on this tab, you'll see a list of all vehicles that are compatible with the part found in that listing. The compatibility tab contains columns for vehicle make, model, year, engine and optional seller notes.

What if I don't see my vehicle in the compatibility tab?
Vehicles that aren't listed in the compatibility tab weren't identified as being compatible with the part, accessory, tire or rim for that listing by either eBay's catalogs or the seller. If you have questions about an item fitting your vehicle, you can contact the seller by clicking the "Ask seller a question" link in the "Seller info" box.

If I see my car in the compatibility tab, am I guaranteed by eBay it will fit? What if it doesn't?
It is the seller's responsibility to support the information they have entered, or authorized eBay to enter, in their item description. Access to eBay catalog data is provided as a convenience to the seller.

How do I find out if a part fits my vehicle in the compatibility tab?
When you click on the "Compatibility" tab, located to the right of the "Description" tab on View Item pages, a list of vehicles will appear. This list contains all of the vehicles that the part will fit, as identified by either eBay's catalogs or the seller. In some instances, a part will fit many different years, makes and models, so be sure to review the entire list to see if your vehicle is included.

How do I report an error with the compatibility tab data?
Please report compatibility tab data errors to DL-eBay-CatalogSubmission@ebay.com.

How come some of my search listings say "fits: (vehicle make and model)" while others do not? Do the ones without that text not fit my car?
Listings that contain compatibility information will include this text on the search results page. When you go to the View Item page for these listings, you'll be able to confirm that the item fits your vehicle by looking it up in the "Compatibility" tab. Listings that do not have compatibility information will not include this text. They may still appear in your search results because they matched your search keywords. Although these items may still fit your vehicle, you should contact the seller to confirm.

How do I search multiple years (generation of car)?
  • On the eBay Motors homepage, enter relevant keywords (such as part type and vehicle make/model) into the search box at the top of the page.
  • Click the Search button.
  • Refine your search from the search results page by entering a year range in the Car & Truck Parts & Accessories Finder

How can I search multiple makes?
You can search for multiple makes by entering each vehicle make in the keyword search field.

Why does it say "this is a partial list... please enter Month, Make and Year?"
Parts compatibility search results can contain a large amount of items if basic search criteria, (your vehicle's make, model and year) isn't entered. For example, a parts compatibility search for all Fords would yield so many items that only a partial list of results would be generated. However, by adding additional filters to your search (e.g.: your vehicle's year and model) the results will be narrowed down to a complete list matching your criteria.

How can I search by trim to get more specific results?
For more specific results, enter the trim you are searching for as an additional keyword (along with your vehicle's year, make and model) in the search box at the top of the Motors homepage.

How can I search by part number?
If you know the part number of an item you are looking for, you can enter it as a search keyword. We recommend adding the year, make and model of your vehicle to ensure the best search

Selling

What is parts compatibility?
Parts compatibility allows sellers to save time and money by creating a single parts and accessories listing on eBay Motors. This format adds standard information to your listing, giving you the opportunity to use your 55-character listing title limit to highlight product details instead of describing compatible vehicles.

This new and powerful tool lets sellers match buyers with parts that fit their vehicles. A searchable description section, now located in all parts and accessories listings, allows buyers to quickly and confidently find the part they're looking for on eBay.

How do I sell using parts compatibility?
Whether you're using our comprehensive catalog or manually entering information, parts compatibility makes it easy to list your products and start selling more.
  • Gather product data for your listing (i.e., brand name, part number, etc.)
  • Search for your product in our catalog
  • Identify and choose the product you're selling and proceed with the listing flow
  • If you can't find the product in our catalog, you can add compatibility information manually by selecting vehicles from our standardized list

What are the benefits of selling using parts compatibility?
Parts compatibility allows you to:
  • Save time and money on listings. Parts compatibility lets sellers create one listing describing a single part. Choose from lists of compatible vehicles to reduce the number of listings you need to create and pay for.
  • Get a boost in search results. With parts compatibility, both the standardized vehicle information and your title are used to match buyers' searches, meaning your listings will show up in more relevant search results pages. We'll also give parts compatibility listings an extra boost in search results.
  • Gain more satisfied buyers. Parts compatibility listings make it easier for your parts to be found by buyers. Parts compatibility helps decrease questions and returns while increasing buyer confidence that they're purchasing parts that will fit their vehicles.

Should I repeat the compatibility information in my title or description?
There is no need to repeat compatibility information in your listing title. Instead, use your title for popular search elements like brand, part type, MPN part number, equivalent OEM part number, part name, material, and any other part numbers (e.g., Platinum number). Some examples:

Old title: Ford Ranger 88/07 Short Bed New Tonneau Bed Cover 6ft.
New title: Freedon 9630 Black Tonneau Bed Cover 6 ft

Old title: 1992-1994 1995 Honda Civic EG6 Headlights+Vision
New title: JDM Blk Crystal Headlights w/Vision Amber Corner Lights

You can repeat compatibility information in your listing description, but this is not essential since this information will already be displayed on the compatibility tab and is used in search. Compatibility information in the description may not be surfaced in search.

Will eBay's tools support the new parts compatibility listings?
Yes, Turbo Lister, Blackthorne and Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro all support the new feature.

I use a third party service to help create my listing. Can I still use the parts compatibility feature?
Check with your third party service provider to see if parts compatibility is available.

Can I use bulk relist features to modify large numbers of listings at a time?
Bulk relist features will not be available for parts compatibility at launch. Look for these features to be available in the near future.

What if I don't know or don't want to provide all the information about a compatible vehicle?
Even if you do not enter all the details (e.g., you provide year, make, model but not trim or engine), the list of compatible vehicles will still include compatible vehicles with the details you provide.

Example: A seller has a headlight that fits all 2002 Dodge Durango trucks. The seller chooses Year: 2002, Make: Dodge, and Model: Durango. The system recognizes that this 2002 Dodge Durango has multiple trims and engines. The system presents all compatible 2002 Dodge Durango trucks, with all trim and engine options, for inclusion in the vehicle compatibility list. Please note the system will return only information on vehicles using the details you provided (in this case 2002, Dodge, Durango).

How is parts compatibility information displayed to buyers?
For parts, tires and wheels, the compatible vehicles are listed on a new tab in the item page. This tab is located to the right of the "Description" tab. When the buyer clicks the tab, he or she will see a list of all vehicles compatible with your part.
